On a glorious day in the Northamptonshire countryside hundreds of cyclists took to the road in a celebration of cycling!

With early morning conditions perfect for cycling those up for a challenge set off from Delapre Abbey on our 80-mile and 40-mile routes, taking in many of the roads that the world’s best female cyclists raced on just one month ago for Stage 5 of the Aviva Women’s Tour.

Those that took on the 80-mile route even summited the two Strava Queen of the Mountains at Naseby and Newnham Hill on their way round.

Another big hit on the day was the Family Ride, a 10-mile circuit along the canal side in Northampton, aimed at getting more youngsters and those new to cycling out on their bikes.

All rides received a great turnout and saw plenty of happy faces arrive back at Delapre Abbey later in the day to pick up their Tour Ride Northamptonshire finishers medal.

Riders were then able to relax and enjoy the sunshine and the entertainment in the Promo Village with mountain bike stunts shows, a Crazy Bikes circuit and a pedal-powered scalextric track. All that alongside stalls from Chain Reaction Cycles, HIGH 5 Nutrition, Fenwicks, Vittoria, Northampton Hope Centre and Northants Sport meant there was loads going on while the legs recovered!

Riders can now view their times on the Results Base website here.

For those of you that can’t wait for next year’s sportive or missed out this time don’t forget there’s the Tour Ride Worcester: Official sportive of the Tour of Britain on Sunday 9th October. Find out all about that ride and how to sign up here.
