Beccles will host a special festival to celebrate the OVO Energy Women’s Tour’s 2019 Grand Depart taking place in the town next month.

Nearly 100 of the world’s best female riders will line up in the Suffolk market town to tackle a 157.6-kilometre (98-mile) route through the county, before finishing in Stowmarket on Monday 10 June.

What and where?

To commemorate the Grand Depart, a special festival will be held on Sunday 9 June, starting with the seventh annual Beccles Triathlon from 08:30 for seasoned and novice triathletes.

The festival proper takes place between 12:00 and 16:00 in and around New Market, featuring live music, a mobile skate park and displays from freestyle bike team, Savage Skills.

There will also be a variety of stalls from the local community, including Suffolk Police, Great Yarmouth Cycle Club, East Suffolk Council, Snap Fitness and Ultimate Boxing, as well as a mini food market.

In its four previous visits to Suffolk, the OVO Energy Women’s Tour is estimated to have attracted in excess of 250,000 spectators to the roadside and created a net economic impact for the county’s economy of in excess of £3.5 million.
