The search is on to find Felixstowe’s King or Queen of the Hill this May, in association with the Friends Life Women’s Tour.

Any rider can join, on any sort of bike, to try and beat one particularly hard little climb.

Whether you are polka-dot clad in lycra, on a carbon framed flying machine, covered in mud on a full suspension mountain bike, or simply on your basic shopping bike, it does not matter – EVERYONE can have a crack at this challenge…

The ‘Beat The Incline’ time trial is an event like no other, with competitors giving it their all on the challenging uphill 100 metre course on Convalescent Hill in Felixstowe.

This ‘fun’ event is being staged on the same day as Felixstowe hosts its first world-class cycling event. Stage Three of the first Friends Life Women’s Tour will start in Felixstowe on Friday, 9 May, before winding its way through Suffolk Coastal’s countryside to Ipswich, then down to Essex, finishing in Clacton.

Suffolk Coastal’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Customers, Communities and Leisure, Cllr TJ Haworth, said: “This is just one of a series of events we will be putting on in the build up and on the day of the start of the Women’s Tour to make sure it is a fantastic event for the people and visitors to Felixstowe.

“The Women’s Tour is a major international sporting event, which is bringing in most of the top women road cyclists on the planet. The eyes of the world will be on Felixstowe, when Stage Three starts here and we want to make sure it is a day to remember, for the competitors, visitors and local people.

“The ‘Beat The Incline’ gives people the opportunity to get into the spirit on the day, earning a coveted T-shirt for beating the hill, while also testing themselves against the incline, the clock and other competitors. The more people take part, the better event it will be.”

Suffolk Coastal District Council, in partnership with Plomesgate Cycling Club, is inviting businesses and individuals to enter into this exciting event, with prizes for the Fastest Woman, Fastest Man and the Fastest Team. Teams are made up of three riders.

Participants will start where Laura Trott, Marianne Vos and Lizzie Armitstead begin Stage Three route of the Women’s Tour.

Competitors will negotiate the steep Convalescent Hill, soaking up the seaside air, as they are cheered all the way to the summit. We guarantee you'll feel the burn but it'll be worth it once you reach the finish line and you never know- you might be walking away as the King or Queen of Convalescent Hill.
